Conclusions

Starting around 1740, Wallachian princes started issuing more regulations and placing greater importance on paperwork than they did before. They also tried to standardize some of the most important units of measurement. Despite these changes, historians of the Phanariot period largely overlooked the role of these transformations in state formation. It is precisely this gap that this book sought to fill.
