From Local Custom to Written Law: Agrarian Regulations and State Infrastructural Growth

The agrarian regulations enacted by the Phanariot prince Constantin Mavrocordat in the 1740s made the object of valuable contributions to Romanian historiography. Still, the historians were mainly interested in the first part of the locution (agrarian). At the beginning of the twentieth century, they focused on agrarian history to illuminate contemporary problems, especially peasants’ question, which degenerated into a massive and violent uprising in 1907.
