Nuclear Proliferation

Supporters of nuclear power expansion resist the notion that nuclear power is connected to nuclear weapons proliferation. However, nuclear power is a necessary precondition, albeit insufficient by itself, for developing nuclear weapons. Plutonium, which is produced by all nuclear reactors in their waste stream, is a primary concern because it can be, and has been, purified in large quantities, small amounts of which are needed for a bomb.
