The Limit of Infinite Reynolds Number for Incompressible Fluids

The Kolmogorov-Onsager conjectures are discussed in the light of experimental and numerical evidence. The Duchon-Robert distribution is introduced and its elementary properties are evaluated. The physical limit is considered by extrapolation of Smits’ formula for turbulent pipe flow. The mathematical limit is analyzed with the aid of the Hopf fde: The possible limit situations are listed as the Reynolds number grows to infinity.
