Wall-Bounded Turbulent Flows

Statistical description of turbulent flows is set up for simple wall-bounded flows: channel flow and boundary layers. The equations for the lowest statistical moments are derived from the Navier-Stokes pdes and the Leray version of the Navier-Stokes pdes. Turbulent pipe flows are analyzed in detail: numerical aspects, theoretical aspects, and fully developed turbulent flow through pipes with circular cross-section. DNS examples are given for turbulent pipe flow and compressible boundary layer flows. Recent results obtained by Cantwell and Nickels are discussed.
