The Structure of Turbulent Flows
摘要
Coherent structures observed in experiments and DNS simulations are classified with the aid of the Minkowski functionals: volume, surface area, mean curvature integral, and Gaussian curvature integral. Structures are defined as with the aid of the Minkowski functionals: volume, surface area, mean curvature integral, and Gaussian curvature integral. They are classified as: The definitions are illustrated with examples taken from experiments and DNS results: vortex rings, Chaplygin-Lamb dipole, Hill’s vortex as solution of the Bragg-Hawthorne pdes, and large-scale motion in Jupiter’s atmosphere.
