All About Assessment

Assessment is one of those terms that can be highly emotive. People can happily recall exam successes and achievements or can remember feelings of anxiety or disappointment. It is tempting to look at assessment in an unfavourable way and perhaps as something that you will just have to endure as part of college life. However, it is important to know that there is a lot more to assessment than having to do an exam or produce an assignment for grading. Somebody making a judgement on the quality of your work is an important part of the assessment process but when you actively explore how assessment helps your learning, it can shift your thinking and you can actually help see assessments in a more positive light.In each of the assessment tasks that you do as part of your programme, there are important learning opportunities for you. Assessment tasks are designed to challenge you and stretch you so that you develop new knowledge, new skills and deeper understanding as an ECEC educator.
