The Relationship Between Educational Methodology for Foreign Languages and the Needs of Society

As a starting point it should first be recognised that approaches to teaching foreign languages are linked with the tasks undertaken by a specific human society at a given moment in time with the means then available to address these tasks. In other words, approaches to teaching foreign languages, i.e. the educational methodology for foreign languages, depend to varying degrees on the needs of society at a given moment in time.
