Three-Manifold Invariants

We know that the Euler characteristic \(\chi \) completely classifies topological structure of the two-dimensional surfaces: two-sphere \(\mathbf S^2\) , torus \(\mathbf T^2\) and higher genus Riemann surfaces \(\Sigma _{\mathbf {g}}\) as pointed out in the earlier chapters.
