摘要

Given the increase in consumption, both in developed and emerging countries, the problem of increased waste, and insufficient recycling policies, it is important to reflect on the management of resources and develop actions that improve the outlook for the coming decades. We will present the results of the physical characterization of household solid waste generated in the district of Colca in the province of Huancayo. Waste characterization is a study through which a sample is collected, and its origin, characteristics, and amount of waste generated are identified. The methodology is detailed, including the formula to determine the amount of the representative sample and thus determine the amount of waste generated by each household. In this case this study was conducted in the district of Colca. An unexpected end was achieved, because it was possible to collect about 743 kg of recyclable waste, generating a source of income for the inhabitants of this district. We managed to raise awareness among the inhabitants generating a circular economy which involves sharing, renting, reusing, repairing, renewing, and recycling existing materials and products as many times as possible to create added value. In this way, the life cycle of products is extended.
