Adobe Construction as a Promoter of Sustainable Energy: The Case of the Desert Town of San Pedro de Atacama, Chile
摘要
This study aims to explore how adobe as a building material can be a sustainable energy solution. The town of San Pedro de Atacama (SPA) has been selected as a case study, because (1) it is located in the driest desert in the world, (2) it has a vast track record in green construction, with a focus on adobe, and (3) it has a unique vernacular architecture of adobe construction. The methodology is developed through the analysis of the natural and artificial environment, followed by the analysis of the behavior and needs of the Atacameño user. Based on the data extracted from the Community Development Plan of San Pedro de Atacama between 2017 and 2021, it is concluded that adobe construction can be a solution to promote sustainable energy, as it is proposed in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile.
