Social Enterprises and Impact Investors in Nigeria

This chapter explores the context of social entrepreneurship and impact investing emergence in Nigeria. It begins with an outline of the history, geographical location and the Nigerian people. It reviews studies on the emergence of non-profit social enterprises and for-profit and hybrid social enterprises, including the challenges they encounter in Nigeria. Second, it examines the need for impact investing finance in Nigeria and the current state of the country in this regard. It concludes with an overview of Nigeria’s socio-cultural, political and economic environment vis-à-vis social entrepreneurship.
