This chapter will go through the details of nucleotide metabolism, starting with the biologically important nucleotides. We will go through the biosynthesis of nucleotides and its regulation. Will talk about purine and pyrimidine salvage and the synthesis of deoxyribonucleotides. We will then go through purine degradation and the production of uric acid, focusing on the physiology and treatment of Gout. We will discuss chemotherapeutic agents that target nucleotide biosynthesis. We will discuss disorders like adenosine deaminase deficiency which leads to severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID).
