Amino Acid Metabolism

This chapter will go through the details of amino acid and protein metabolism, starting with the biological important amino acids. Will go through the biosynthesis of nonessential amino acids. We will go from important amino acid derivatives. We will also discuss protein synthesis and protein degradation. We will discuss the degradation of the amino acids and the urea cycle. Will also talk about ammonia transport through the glutamine cycle and alanine cycle. We will talk about the catabolism of the carbon skeletons and discuss the roles of insulin and glucagon in amino acid metabolism. Through all of this we will discuss various disorders such as kwashiorkor, urea cycle defect, hepatic encephalopathy, and others.
