Carbohydrate Metabolism
摘要
This chapter will go through the details of carbohydrate metabolism, starting with glucose transport and includes glycolysis, pyruvate metabolism, the tricarboxylic acid cycle (also known as Krebs cycle), oxidative phosphorylation, the mitochondrial shuttles, glycogen and its synthesis and metabolism, gluconeogenesis, the Cori cycle, the hexose monophosphate shunt, insulin and glucagon metabolism, fructose metabolism, and galactose metabolism. We will discuss the various disorders associated with these pathologies, including diabetes mellitus and its various types, metabolic disorders like essential glucosuria, fructose intolerance, and galactosemia. We will also discuss exercise physiology as it relates to carbohydrate metabolism.
