Cyborg Conception: The Solo Mother as a Cyborg Not a Goddess

  • Grace Halden

摘要

Situating the chapter in the 1980s in which goddess ideology and cyborg liberation coincided with the establishment of the Single Mother by Choice community (SMC), I examine how the Solo Mother by Choice (SMBC) can be interpreted as a cyborg mother who combines technology (assisted reproductive technology and gamete donation) and reproductive biology to conceive without a partner. I consider the ‘social reality’ of the cyborg and argue that the SMBC marks a step away from traditional heteronormative reproduction and nuclear family dynamics to instead represent a binary adjacent family model of one parent from conception.
