Incremental Role of Radiomics and Artificial Intelligence

The ever-growing realms of medicine and AI already pose a significant level of complexity on their own, which in combination shall be properly handled by a more in-depth collaborative and discussion-oriented approach involving both clinicians and AI experts. In light of this, near-term technological advancements may not be the primary drivers to witness the incremental role and adoption of radiomics in neuro-oncological applications, but a close clinician-AI-expert-driven interdisciplinary engagement will be. In this chapter, we wished to highlight the most typical potential pitfalls that may occur in neuro-oncological applications if the required level of mutual engagement and communication is not present between the above stakeholders. Demystifying AI is one of the most important aspects of this endeavor, and here, we encourage clinicians to engage their AI experts with questions that are relevant to build interdisciplinary knowledge together. This chapter shall serve as an ideal base for conducting such collaborative work.
