Advancements in Brain Tumors Classification
摘要
Brain tumors are a major cause of morbidity and mortality. In particular, glioblastoma has a particularly poor prognosis and adult patients with this cancer have not seen major improvements in survival in the last few decades. Recent advancements in the molecular classification of brain tumors will improve the prognostication and clinical stratification for treatment. In this chapter, we discuss such advancements in the molecular pathology of adult gliomas, with a focus on the World Health Organization classification of central nervous system tumors in 2021 and on new methylation profiling subtypes. Moreover, we discuss future directions of research in order to use the latest molecular diagnostics for improving the clinical management of patients with gliomas.
