The development of winter tourism is one of many ways to revitalize both the rural and regional areas. Considering the area of Banja Luka is rich in natural potentials, the goal of which is to determine the current condition and highlight the areas that are suitable for investment. After determining the advantages, strategic guidelines for long term and sustainable development of the winter tourism can be determined through which prosperity on a microeconomic and macroeconomic level could be achieved. This paper integrates Geographic Information System (GIS) with Analytic Hierarchy Processes (AHP) to evaluate the relative importance of natural, climatological, and anthropological factors in determining the suitability of the Banja Luka rural area for winter tourism development. Following the identification of key influencing factors, AHP is applied to weigh these factors, enabling the indexing and mapping of the suitability of the Banja Luka case study area for winter tourism development using GIS data. The final results of this study offer valuable insights into the application of GIS-based AHP for winter tourism planning, benefiting practitioners and investors alike.
