Subject Positions of Evidence-Based Policing

  • Paul Betts

摘要

This chapter presents research findings from detailed study of the texts produced through the development of evidence-based policing (‘EBP’) discourse. The focus of the chapter is on the subject positions that are created through EBP discourse, and how actors and institutions position themselves and others against those positions. The chapter is presented in three sections, exploring subject positions created: within policing; within academia; and for politicians. Sub-categories are offered under these three lenses and are illustrated with examples discovered from the detailed study of EBP texts. Analysis and commentary of how these subject positions intersect with EBPs story-lines and institutional changes, produced through discourse, is offered to further develop a genealogy of EBP in Britain.
