摘要

The genome-sequencing revolution advances exponentially with a rich and diverse history and application. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) has vastly improved sequencing output while being significantly faster and less expensive than Sanger sequencing. Although next-generation sequencing has been around for nearly two decades, it is still relevant to describe highly parallel or high-throughput sequencing methods that produce data at the genome-scale. NGS has enabled researchers to expedite their studies in life sciences in general and comprehend phytobacterial disease from a more extensive and deeper perspective. This chapter explores the evolution and developments of NGS from historical and current perspectives, contemporary concepts, technologies, and their application in phytobacterial diseases.
