Case Study 1: Antigua Relojería: A Lauded Centenary Watchmaking Family Business

This case provides insights into Antigua Relojería, a centenary shop that has been selling and repairing all kinds of watches since 1880 in the city of Madrid. In the city of Madrid, there are more than a hundred shops that have been trading for more than a century. All of them have been recognized by the City Council as Centenary Shops. This case discusses the challenges and opportunities faced by traditional establishments, and succession problems faced by family businesses, and shows how traditional establishments, such as the Antigua Relojería, constitute an important tourist attraction for historic city centers.
