  • Prabhakar Venkatram

摘要

This chapter discusses some conditions that affect the Mitral Valve. Many of these conditions are congenital being present at birth or appearing later in life with a genetic predisposition. The acquired diseases discussed are connective tissue disorders like Systemic Lupus Erythematosus which gives to Libman Sack’s Endocarditis, Hyper Eosinophilic Syndrome, Tumors like Myxoma, Endomyocardial Fibrosis etc. Calcification, Rheumatic Heart Disease, Infective Endocarditis have already been discussed. Mitral Valve Prolapse can be congenital (as a part of Marfan’s Syndrome for example) or acquired due to increased external pressure on the Ventricles. Treatment options for these diseases are also discussed.
