摘要

The first step towards performing Echocardiogram is the Parasternal Long Axis (PLAX) View in the Left Parasternal Window. This chapter covers all aspects of this procedure, step by step. How to obtain an optimal 2D image is explained because it is essential for interpretation, for further evaluation by M Mode and Doppler (Spectral, Color). It is important to know all the structures in the view. The structures not seen in this view are mentioned to complete the picture. Any deviation from normal is mentioned as well as the pathology that can be identified in this view. All three modes (2D, M Mode and Doppler-wherever possible) are described in this chapter. Findings needing immediate attention are elaborated to facilitate the reporting process. In essence, after reading this chapter, the reader will feel comfortable to take this first step towards completing the protocol.
