The Three Basic Modes of Echocardiogram: 2D, M Mode and Doppler. Their Role in Diagnosing Pathology and Their Limitations

  • Prabhakar Venkatram

摘要

Echocardiogram has three modes namely 2D (2 Dimensional) View, M (Motion) Mode and Doppler (Spectral and Color). Each mode serves a different function in that the information it provides is specific to that mode. 2D Image forms the basis to obtain the other two. After reading this chapter, the reader will have an idea about the salient features of all three modes, how they can be combined in a Duplex Image, how they complement each other in providing the necessary information to clinch the diagnosis. The advantages and disadvantages of each mode is discussed. More detailed information is provided in the subsequent chapters when each view in each window is discussed separately.
