Corona Virus Infection

This chapter deals with Corona Virus Infection which caused a pandemic in the twenty-first century with considerable morbidity and mortality resulting from it. Though the infection is taken off the pandemic list, new variants emerge which make us to be vigilant about the infection. The development of vaccines to prevent the infection and the ongoing effort to include the variants have definitely blunted the impact of the infection in the world. But still barrier technique, good sanitary hygiene, and being knowledgeable about the symptoms, signs of the infection, and keeping abreast of the preventive measures is extremely essential to counter its spread in the world population. We have yet to observe the long-term sequelae the corona virus infection can leave behind and prospective studies are ongoing to address this issue. All these topics are discussed in this chapter and the reader would become familiar with the causative factor, the clinical course, the preventive measures and the treatment options. This virus has given us an opportunity to create an environment and gain medical knowledge to prevent such pandemics in the future. Though this disease is off the pandemic list now, and better preventive measures and treatment options are available, it is prudent to be vigilant regarding contracting the disease.
