摘要

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy is a pathological hypertrophy of the cardiac musculature without an increase in afterload responsible for it. It is many times congenital (genetic) with a predilection for other family members to be affected. After reading this chapter, the reader will become familiar with what defines the condition, the types, the causative factor, the hemodynamic changes caused by it, the cause for concern of the obstructive type and the need for emergency intervention, the use of 2D, M Mode and Doppler (Spectral and Color) of the Echocardiogram in diagnosing the condition, the measurements that aid in its diagnosis, the symptoms and signs the patient presents with, the associated pathology with this condition and the treatment options that are available to rectify the hemodynamic changes caused by the condition.
