Pericarditis: Types, Diagnosis and Treatment Options

This chapter deals with inflammation of the outer layer of the heart, namely the Pericardium. Again, it can be an isolated pathology, or it can be accompanied by myocarditis and Endocarditis. After reading this chapter one would be familiar with the different types of Pericarditis, how to diagnose the same, the role of Echocardiogram in the diagnostic process, the hemodynamic changes caused by the different types and why, the treatment options available and how to distinguish between Constrictive Pericarditis and Restrictive Cardiomyopathy.
