A Matter of Method: Ecofeminist Writing as a Method of Inquiry

This chapter explains the way this investigation into the way Australian women tell their garden stories as forms of environmental communication is guided by using writing as a method of inquiry (Richardson, Fields of Play: Constructing an Academic Life. Rutgers University Press, 1997). In doing so it highlights the way this book attempts to both show and tell the way writing itself is a process of discovery. It then considers the way ecofeminism requires nourishment from other philosophies, most recently Karan Barad’s diffractive methodology of “re-turning”as a way to breathe new life into ecofeminist approaches in order to consider their use in environmental communication.
