摘要

Congenital lordosis is the least recognized condition among spinal column deformities yet a lethal one. It is formed due to the formation of an unsegmented bar of the spinal column after the failure of segmentation. Pure congenital lordosis cases are scarce while lordosis with other deformities like scoliosis is more frequently encountered. Presentation varies among patients and depends on the type of deformity and the rate of progression. Congenital lordosis can be associated with many other deformities. These can be intraspinal anomalies, isolated congenital defects, or genetic syndromes. So, a holistic approach is required to uncover any accompanying conditions. The treatment is entirely surgical with no room for conservative treatment. Anterior fusion is the operation of choice for early cases with minimal deformity. Advanced cases require corrective procedure with combined anterior and posterior approaches. If left untreated the condition is progressive leading to pulmonary impairment. Nonetheless, when treated early quality of life can be restored to normal.
