Persistent Terminal Ventricle

The ventriculus terminalis is defined as an ependymal-lined fusiform expansion of the terminal central canal of the spinal cord. The embryological origin of this condition is through canalization and retrograde specialization of caudal spinal cord which normally degenerate during early childhood. The ventriculus terminalis may rarely persist in some kids and will be depicted by radiological investigations. Ventriculus terminalis should be distinguished from other conditions such as cystic neoplasm and syringohydromyelia as they are the main differential diagnosis of this condition. Management of this condition is still in debate as non-symptomatic patient are treated conservatively, whereas patients having neurological symptoms may need surgery.
