Zinc in Plants: Biochemical Functions and Dependent Signaling

Zinc is an essential micronutrient for plant growth and development. Zinc is involved in a wide variety of cellular processes, including photosynthesis, protein synthesis, and signal transduction. Zinc-dependent signaling is mediated by a variety of zinc-binding proteins, including transcription factors, enzymes, and receptors. These proteins interact with each other to regulate gene expression, cell division, and plant responses to environmental stimuli. In this chapter, we discuss the role of zinc in plant signaling. We will focus on the different zinc-binding proteins involved in signaling and how these proteins interact to regulate plant growth. The role of zinc in plant responses to environmental stresses such as drought, salinity, and heavy metal toxicity will be discussed, as well. Zinc-dependent signaling is a complex and dynamic process that is essential for plant health and survival. By understanding the role of zinc in signaling, we can develop new strategies to improve plant productivity and resilience to environmental stresses.
