Mainstream Industries and Organisations Influenced by Superstition

This chapter explicates how superstitious beliefs have impacted mainstream industries and organisations in ways that influence the behaviour of managers, employees and consumers, depending upon their personal worldview and the organisational and national cultures in which they operate. Many of the superstitions across these industries appear to be numerologicallyNumerology based, the concept of which has already been developed in Chapter 9 . The concluding section of this chapter addresses some of the challenges that are likely to arise for multinationalsMultinationals (MNCs) where superstition has some influence upon decision making at the local subsidiary level and draws upon a particular case in MyanmarMyanmar to illustrate how some of these challenges might be approached and addressed.
