Evaluation of a Heat Pump Integration in the District Heating Supply of a Production Facility

The decarbonisation of industrial heat is crucial due to changing energy policies and climate challenges. Electrified power-to-heat applications, such as industrial heat pumps, can contribute to the decarbonisation of production systems. This study analyses the integration of a heat pump into an existing district heating system to reduce energy consumption. A dynamic simulation model evaluates different integration cases by varying the supply temperature. Integrating the heat pump can reduce the overall energy consumption. It has been shown that the temperature lift, and thus the COP, in this system is highly dependent on the supply temperature.
