With few individual exceptions, specific human communities or minority philosophical currents, the prevailing moral paradigm regarding the relationship of human beings with the rest of the species has been and is clearly anthropocentric, of a purely utilitarian nature. It considers humans as the owners of the World and everything that inhabits it, and the value, welfare and rights of other species and their individuals are granted according to the benefit that humans derive from them, tradition or prejudice.
