Assertiveness: Elemental Competence in Initial Teacher Training

This study aims to argue assertiveness’ relevance as a critical competency in initial teacher training and analyse practical proposals to promote assertiveness in programmes related to its nature. This chapter uses the documentary research design with a descriptive scope and transactional nature, which began with a specialised database of research articles focused on a theoretical and practical approach to assertiveness in teaching training, including resources based on specific criteria. The results state the relevance of this ability and document its input in the initial teacher training, as well as debates that are better strategies to incorporate assertiveness as a critical factor in developing skills, which are necessary for the professional profile of education in a challenging framework and the current needs of society.
