Geomorphology of Bahia State
摘要
The text written about the geomorphology of Bahia, from a regional point of view, aims to contribute to relief studies, presenting some of the main scientific works in evidence, with the intention of clarifying readers' understanding, through consistent data and information. The central objective is to provide a concise and unifying document, to expand and popularize the understanding of the geomorphology of the State of Bahia. We begin with a brief characterization of geology and geomorphology, in order to present the general aspects that make up the Bahian landscape. We adopted as the main reference to reveal the Bahian landscape two official public documents, both from the 70s, the works of the RADAM BRASIL Project, Folha Salvador—SD.24 and the Atlas of the State of Bahia, as well as numerous classic and contemporary scientific documents, produced by specialists in geography and geosciences. We highlight that these two fundamental works and other studies are extensive, sometimes difficult to understand, and inaccessible to the majority of the public. Therefore, a careful and synthetic geomorphological discussion is outlined. The reflections produced in this scientific work confirm the existence of eight (08) main units of the Bahian Relief: Coastal Plain, Plateaus, Sedimentary Basins, Sertaneja Planation Surface, Diamantina Plateau, Espinhaço Residual Mountain System, São Franciscana Planation Surface and Great Western Plateau (“chapadão”).
