Adaptation, Cross-Adaptation and Masking of Odours

In this chapter I try to give an overview of some important concepts in odour perception. These are adaptation, cross-adaptation and masking. Because these concepts sometimes cause confusion, I want to cover them here in a little more detail. They are clearly related and can be made understandable in the same schematic framework. It is a somewhat abstract presentation, if you do not feel like it, you can skip this chapter without missing something to understand the following chapters.
