Next-Gen Negligence and the Future of Public Education

Chapter 15 explores two looming frontiers for public education: artificial intelligence (AI) and what the future will look like for schooling. Drawing from reflections on the 1980s emergence of computer technology in schools as well as current perceptions of the cautionary use of AI in education today, the authors speak to the need for dialogue and training to best prepare for the unknown. This theme continues through the authors’ discussion of how education is likely to change in the future to adapt to a world very different from that which public education was first developed to serve.
