Structure Formation

The universe is lit up with starsStars, which are scattered through space, forming a hierarchy of structure. Stars are assembled into galaxies, and galaxies are grouped in clusters, which are in turn grouped into still larger structures, called superclustersSuperclusters. The formation of cosmic structures is an active area of research, and we now believe we have a good idea of how they emerged.
