Transportation is a major challenge as the mass of residents and goods required to meet their needs have to be moved efficiently in order for cities to function effectively. Over time, various strategies have been proposed to develop sustainable urban mobility and transport systems. In the last two decades, transit-oriented development (TOD) has emerged globally as a critical approach to achieve this aim (Suzuki et al., 2013; Padeiro et al., 2019).
