Urban Infrastructure and Transit-Oriented Development in Banjul, Gambia

This paper provides an in-depth analysis of the transportation infrastructure, challenges, and recommendations for improvement in Banjul, the capital city of The Gambia. The study examines the historical background, geographical context, population growth, urbanization, and economic reliance on tourism, agriculture, and remittances. The paper also explores the city’s transportation modes, including road, waterway, and air transport, as well as the institutional and regulatory framework governing the sector. Furthermore, the paper identifies key gaps in the transportation infrastructure and proposes a range of short- to long-term solutions to address these issues. The findings and recommendations from this study can serve as a valuable reference for other African cities facing similar challenges in their transportation sectors.
