A Way Forward – Academic Literacies Assessment and Its Roles in Educational and Higher Education Systems Development

The final chapter looks forward to the ways in which the work and research might contribute to higher education systems development in student support, curriculum, teaching and programme design and placement. It invites readers to assess the work as pointing not only in the direction of the needs of students. It proposes that the work might contribute more substantively to the wider issues and challenges of higher education that have been raised by previous chapters: student access and inequality; the need for higher education curricula to be more responsive; the challenges to the dominance of English as medium-of-instruction in higher education; the need for more contextualised views of literacies and how they are understood across disciplinary contexts.
