Psychosocial Perspectives of Shakespeare’s Empathy

  • David Ian Jeffrey

摘要

Shakespeare had a sensitivity towards psychosocial issues, mental illness, and the problem of other minds. A reading of Hamlet offers opportunities for exploring these issues in relation to developing empathic relationships with patients. The themes chosen in this chapter are uncertainty, depression and grief. The insights gained from reading Hamlet are related to clinical situations. After each theme teaching suggestions for medical students are included.
