The Unbearable Lightness of Modern Sexual Slavery: Legal and Criminological Framework in Spain

In this chapter, the author discusses modern slavery generally and modern sexual slavery, in particular, navigating through the regulatory framework in Spain. Given that traffickers control men, women, and children through pressure, threats, and other sorts of manipulation on a regular basis, it is expected there will be sexual violence. This sexual violence can precede and be concomitant or subsequent to sexual exploitation. Spain has taken into consideration all the international regulations and has adopted a serious strategy for tackling the problem of sexual slavery. It has created not only a legislative framework but regulatory measures as well.
