In Search of Hopes for Change: What Can Systems Thinking Offer Racial Justice-Oriented Networks Aimed at Tackling Systemic Invisibility of Black, Brown, and Other Racially Minoritised Voices in the VAWG/DASV Sphere

Racial justice is critical to achieving an inclusive and diverse Violence Against Women Girls/Domestic Abuse Sexual Violence (VAWG/DASV) sphere; essentially if we are to improve outcomes for ALL victims-survivors. This chapter illuminates the role of a virtual safe space during (and beyond) crisis times, which funnelled through hope, and an ethical responsibility for the reshaping of VAWG/DASV systems, in equity terms. This argument for a systems-oriented approach to tackling systemic invisibility of Black, Brown, and racially minoritised voices, is developed through our commentary, reflections, and research findings on community building, ‘allyship’, cross-cultural understandings, and systems change, during the dual crisis of the global pandemic and global racial protests that spanned 2020–2022. This chapter fuses a notion of hope (hopes for change) with systems leadership to explore hopeful possibilities for systems change through sustained allyship, and improved visibility of Black, Brown, and other racially minoritised communities (comprising front-line workers, activists, survivors, academics, policymakers, students, and others) within the VAWG/DASV sphere.
