摘要

This chapter explains the liturgies, a special type of taxation burdening the wealthy citizens and wealthy metics. The most important of them were trierarchy and choregia, the former related to the financing of the Athenian navy and the latter related to staging theatrical plays. It also describes the Athenian tax system and antidosis, a mechanism through which a citizen could deny undertaking a liturgy.
