Introduction

In this book, we will explain the meaning of this statement, and see how the study of continuous functions between sets provides insights into their structure or topology. Of course, the reader is assumed to be already familiar with continuous functions from calculus, and these provide us with invaluable motivation. Our goal is not only to extend the idea of continuous functions, but also the sets where the functions are defined, the so-called topological spaces.
