Special Considerations: Fractures of the Scapular Neck and Body

Scapular body and neck fractures commonly occur secondary to high energy mechanisms. While most can be treated non-operatively, for those with indicated deformity, there are several different approaches and fixation strategies that can be used to address the fractures. Approaches include the Judet, modified Judet, Brodsky, and minimally invasive approach. Most fractures are fixed in a fragment specific fashion utilizing either pre-contoured plates or compression and reconstruction plates with locking and non-locking options. Performed appropriately, scapular body and neck fracture fixation can yield great patient outcomes.
