Quality in Endoscopic Ultrasound

The ability to provide high-quality medical care to patients is a crucial responsibility for health-care professionals, and quality assurance has been a focus of international attention for nearly 20 years. Although quality indicators have been proposed for endoscopic ultrasound since 2006, numerous challenges have limited their subsequent validation and widespread adoption into clinical practice. In this chapter, we will review the present state of quality in endosonography and outline the potential components of a high-quality EUS examination. We will discuss the rationale and evidence basis for several proposed quality indicators in each of the pre-procedural, intra-procedural, and post-procedural domains.
